Counselling for individuals and couples

We offer a professional counselling service for individuals and couples who wish to discuss or explore aspects of their lives that are impacting on their well-being.

If you have not had counselling before, you might have a number of questions or you might feel a little nervous. However, our counsellors can help you with your questions and reassure you about the process.

Therapy is typically offered on a weekly basis, with a 50-minute appointment each week, at a set day and time.

Appointments can sometimes be moved. There is normally a charge for late cancellations.

Cost

Fully qualified counsellors working at Synergie set their own rates and typically charge between £40 and £60 per session. We're also able to offer low-cost therapy with Synergie trainees who are approaching the end of their training and starting out in the profession.

How to make an appointment

If you would like to go ahead, the first step is to have a free initial appointment (called an assessment), which is an opportunity for your counsellor to find out more about your situation and for you to ask the counsellor questions.

You can then decide if or how you might like to proceed with a course of therapy, and the terms of the arrangement - including times and other details - can be agreed between you.

Please call Synergie on 01895 254660 for more information about how it works and whether counselling might be right for you.

What is counselling?

Counselling provides an opportunity for you to talk to a trained professional who can help you to make sense of your thoughts and feelings.

This is especially helpful at times when life seems particularly difficult or when we notice we are getting stuck in unhelpful patterns.

Talking to a professional counsellor can help you to focus on what you want and which decisions you need to make to change your circumstances.

Who are the counsellors?

Counsellors are ordinary people from different walks of life who have an interest in people.

All our counsellors at Synergie have undergone rigorous training, typically of at least four years or more.

They are also members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to this organisation's ethical framework.

Is it confidential?

With one or two exceptions, which will be explained during your first appointment, nothing you say during counselling and no other information about you will be shared by our counsellor unless you have given your permission.

What kind of advice will I get?

Counselling is not about giving advice. At Synergie we will help you to focus on what it is you want so that you can decide what changes you need to make in your life.

What is the cost?

We offer a free half-hour assessment session during which some basic information is taken. There will be some exploration of the topics you would like to look into and some discussion regarding the way forward.

If it is decided Synergie is not the way forward for you we will try to guide you to where you can get the appropriate help.

If you decide to embark on some counselling sessions with us, we charge a standard rate of £50 per session and work to a six-session counselling contract, with a review at session six.

We do not insist that you complete all six sessions, but we suggest that you come for at least three or four before making a decision on whether you feel the therapy is working for you.
